Schedule:
A service guide consisting
of factory recommended maintenance.
Maintenance
Inspection:
The act of checking specific parts of an automobile. This usually
includes an inspection of fluid levels, the battery, radiator,
gearboxes, air conditioning and front brakes.
Oil or
Lubricant Change:
To change the fluids in the engine (i.e. crankcase, transmission,
differential).
Tune-up:
Generally, the act of adjusting the engine so that it runs at
manufacturer's specifications. This includes replacing spark plugs and
inspecting the battery and changing the fuel filter. It might include
the air filter on most makes and models. In some cases, a tune-up may
involve adjusting the valves.
Brake
Master Cylinder:
The heart of the hydraulic brake system.
Wheel
Cylinder
The part of the hydraulic brake system that applies the pressure to the
drum to stop the wheel.
Calipers
The part of a disc brake system (front or rear) that applies pressure
to the disc to stop the wheel.
Brake
Rotors
That which absorbs the heat from the brakes and allows the disc to
dissipate it into the atmosphere.
Drive
Belts
These are the belts that drive various components of the car. They are
powered by the crankshaft. Drive belt operate the fan, alternator,
power steering and air conditioning.
